Bend radii, hole-to-edge distances and relief cuts — simple rules that save cost and time.
Good sheet metal design makes parts cheaper, faster and more consistent to produce. These rules of thumb help.
Keep holes away from bends
Holes placed too close to a bend line will distort when the part is formed. Allow a clear distance from the bend.
Use consistent bend radii
Using the same inside radius throughout a part reduces tool changes on the press brake.
Add bend reliefs
Small relief cuts where a bend meets an edge prevent tearing and give a cleaner corner.
